Today I want to tell you about a fabulous a yarn related community event.
Little Havens is a local children’s hospice providing respite breaks, symptom control and end-of-life care to youngsters not expected to reach adulthood because of a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.
A group of local woman known as The Craft Club are attempting to create a magical garden, made entirely of crochet items. They are going for a World Record attempt of over 4000 items! They are drawing inspiration from Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree stories, so any crochet items of a woodland or fantasy nature will be suitable.
An exhibition of the yarnbomb so far will take place at Metal’s Village Green Festival on 12 July 2014. This is a local Festival of Arts held at Chalkwell Park. They expect around 20,000 participants so this will offer some fantastic exposure for the project. All items will be displayed in the Little Havens Garden on 25 August 2014 for the patients and their families. The regional media will be in attendance on the day, and will publish the yarnbomb in the local press.
This event is being shared across Facebook, and although it’s a local event, they welcome donations from everywhere. If you know anybody who wants to support this wonderful idea, please pass on the details and Facebook page.
I’ve taken up the challenge and have started to make a crochet dragon. I think that will be in keeping with the fantasy element.
